One of my favorite companies, Zappos is unveiling (no pun intended) their nude campaign in August. The ads will feature women doing everyday activities like playing Frisbee, or hailing a taxi, but naked. Zappos is a trend setter in company culture. Customer service is their #1 priority, with no scripts or having to stick to a call time, Zappos employees can really impact a customer’s experience. If they need to stay on the line with you for 2 hours or more to ensure you find what you seeking, they will.
It comes as no surprise that the naked campaign is just another way for the company to show their quirky side (this video will give to you a better idea). The print ads feature women of a more reasonable size. And by reasonable I mean she doesn’t look like she 6 feet tall and starving herself. One of the naked models leisurely riding her Vespa around town is only 5 feet tall. Companies like Abercrombie and Fitch have been criticized for their overly sexual ads. However, Zappos takes a more playful and interactive approach that engages the consumer. When a consumer sees the ads in print a QR (quick response) code, when scanned with a mobile device, will take them to the Zappos mobile site to pick out an outfit for the naked model. And no need to panic women, Zappos will have a male model for us too! At the end of July, “Zappos will take over the home page of a major search engine portal with an interactive ad introducing a male character, Arthur.” Although, given Zappos culture I have feeling this will be a joke or some funny looking man. Guess we will just have to wait and see…
